System restart after redraw in wpf design mode.

Hi,

When I lock my computer and then unlock with the visual studio designer displaying any wpf control, it crashes and reboots. This happens even with a simple empty window. Sometimes I see triangles being rendered first - not only in the design window. The only error message appears on system restart saying windows has recovered from a fatal error.

I have tried this on two machines usingboth Visual Studio 2005 Professional (with the plugin) and Visual C# 2008 Express. The two machines are identical in build and system. They both have Matrox Millennium P650 LP PCIe 64 graphics cards running two monitors. I have updated the drivers and I have dx9.0c.

Has anyone come accross this before? Does anyone know how to deal with it?

Thanks.

Thank you, Asa. I have received your files and forwarded them to Linzhen from the WPF team.

In the meantime, please try to disable hardware acceleration in WPF to keep your system from crashing.

Looking at the forum I think that this may be the same issue as in: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=3309684&SiteID=1

I follow the same process including the 5-10s locking the PC. It crashes before closing VS though, just a couple of seconds after the first and only corrupt redraw of the designer. I don't get BSOD, just a reset. I also noticeI have the same graphics card.

I will forward dxdiag data and minidump.

Thanks.

Similar problem, different graphics card (nvidia 8400m). No restarts though, open VS2008SP1 designer, lock windows and go have a coffee, unlock, observe that visual studio crashes. Does not occur everytime, but very often.

Seems to be an ongoing problem.

Hi @Ugurturan

Sorry to hear this. Have you tried following Marco's advice above on disabling Hardware Acceleration in WPF? Does that help in your situation?

Thx

Mark
