Visual SourceSafe 2005 Beta 2 installation problem

Hi,

I'm experiancing a problem when trying to install this on Windows Server 2003.

Each time I run the setup program I get the message "A failed installation has been detected. Press OK to uninstall the product. Then try installing." I click OK, and it goes to an uninstall screen, which validates the install order and then tells me it's uninstalled. It doesn't seem to remove the thing it's detecting though (If it's actually removing anything at all).

As far as I am aware no installation of previous betas has taken place. There isn't any sign in the add/remove programs dialog.

Any one have any ideas?

Hi ITfJ,

The setup for SourceSafe 2005 is done by the same team that does the setup for VisualStudio. You should try posting the question on the Visual Studio Setup forum, at http://forums.microsoft.com/msdn/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=26, someone there may have an idea what's wrong.

I also noticed that VS setup creates in the %TEMP% folder some files like dd_vserror80.txt, dd_vsinstall80.txt, dd_depcheck.txt, uxeventlog.txt. You should check the content of those files, perhaps some information written there will help pinpoint the culprit.

Thank you,
Alin
