Download and License Visual SourceSafe 6.0d

Due to limitations of a commonly used API that requires VS .NET 2003 for assured compatibility and support, I am forced to use that particular version of the IDE. I also need to do source control in order to qualify for CMMI 5 rating. Based also on a compatibility matrix that shows SourceSafe versions that function with VS .NET 2003, I need to procure VSS 6.0d or VSS 8. How can I download and license a copy of VSS 6.0d? Where can this be purchased? Thanks very much in advance.

Hi Bill,

SourceSafe 6.0 is included in Visual Studio 6.0.

You may check Microsoft Team Foundation to see which fits your need better:

Also, you may try Dynamsoft SourceAnywhere, which is a SQL-based source control solution designed to be the replacement of SourceSafe:

Thanks.

Hi Catherine,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I am looking for SourceSafe 6.0d specifically. Tell me if you will, however, whether SourceSafe is really the way to go or whether Microsoft is about to come up with something better. I have heard that there is a better product offered by Microsoft and that SourceSafe is about to be shelved.
