I have been trying to login to Visual Source Safe 6.0, but I keep getting a "Database ... does not exist, would you like to search for it?" message. I can search for it and find the srcsafe.ini file, but it will not open. After I get that message, If I say Yes, to search for it, the login will come up with the correct database, but when I try to login in, I get the following: "Invalid DOS path \xxx\srcsafe.ini"
I reinstalled VSS after I had tried to set the path in the ini files, etc., but I still am not having any luck logging in. |

Usually this indicates a permission problem of some kind. If you open \\xxx\xxx\srcsafe.ini in Notepad, are you able to modify it?

I have searched everywhere for info on this error and I cannot find anything. I went on to someone else's machine and I am able to login fine and can see the data in source safe, but cannot login from my machine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Are you sure you have write permission? Try the Notepad test above.

I have the same problem just like you. And I solved this problem. Maybe you should provision the security and share privileges for vss index.Got it?Good luck! |

any other ideas?
Thanks. |

Hi Joe,
VSS index means the VSS database folder. You can check the following article for info on how to set share permissions for a VSS database:
Thanks.
