VS2005 SP1 installs hanging

Hi All,

I'm trying to install the VS2005 SP1 on my freshly built XP Home SP2 box. I downloaded VS80sp1-KB926601-X86-ENU and ran it. Every time the update runs, is uses CPU, then all of a sudden, the CPU goes to 0% and it stays there with the initial progress bar for the update stopped about 2/3 of the way into it. The install is not hung (I can cancel it), but that's where it stays.

The machine has no virus scanner (yet), and is up-to-date with Windows Update. There's at least 30Gig free on every disk. As I said, this is a fresh machine with no (other) software installed on it yet. I did try KB925336, but no success.

I looked in the %TEMP% directory and there's a log file in there (VS80sp1-KB926601-X86-ENU-wrapper.log):

And assistance would be very appreciated!

I trying download again and finnaly work. I download file two times. I get from another download from another network and finnaly work. I don't know exactly why, but appear to be a file problem. The file run without error message.

I set TMP and TEMP system vars to c:\temp. I see a temp files, get log and see "Extracting package item to file ERROR [16389] ERROR".

If you see task manager you must see cpu and memory load. If you don't see any activity, try to download agan. My first package was using freedownload manager. I finnaly install a file downloaded with IE.

I waited 10+ hours. There is no extracted .msp/.msi file under %TEMP% - I'm guessing it doesn't even get this far. PerfMon showed zero CPU and no change in memory or activity in the system (or the installer process) over that time.

This issue is not answered. The symptoms as shown in the log file appear to be different than any reported problems. There are error messages in my post, is anyone able to tell me, at least, what these errorsare?

The maddening thing about this is that this is a FRESH install, fully updated and NOTHING else. Confusing.

Thanks!

C.

I've got the same issue with Vista Ultimate.
