Visual Studio 2008 Pro crashes shortly after entering a VB or C# Project Properties screen

As the title suggests, shortly after entering theProject Properties screen inside of VS 2008 Pro, i get a 'Microsoft Visual Studio has encountered a problem and needs to close' dialog.

Now this just started happening last week, and it does not matter what solution/project i am viewing.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? If so, how did you resolve it?

I have Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Version 9.0.300729.1 SP
Addins: Dotfuscator Professional, InstallShield 2009 Professional SP2, MySQL Connector/Net 5.2, ANTS Profiler 4, SourceOutliner 1.0, Crystal Reports
HotFix KB#'s : 944899, 945282, 946040, 946308, 946344, 946581, 947171, 947173, 947180, 947540, 947789, 948127, 953256, 971092, 945140, 947888, 956453, 967143

The onlyprograms i have installed since 9/1/2009 have been :
QuickBooks Premier 2010, Live Mesh, Java Runtime 2, Silverlight, and Acrobat 8 Standard.
I would not think that these would have affected Visual Studio in any way.

The updates that were loaded this month are:
Windows (kb972036), Windows (kb973768), Windows Security (kb967723), Windows Security (kb68816), Windows (kb905866), Windows Security (kb971961), Windows Security (970710), Silverlight 3.0340818.0, Silverlight Developer Package 3.0.40818, Outlook 2003 Security Update (kB973515), and Windows (kb955430).

Hi mbaldini

There is a QA pair covering some usual points of the problem, hopefully it can help: What can be done if Visual Studio IDE encounters unexpected problems?

If not, please feel free to let me know.

Thanks.

Resetting the settings did not seem to work. But i did also notice that it crashes when i go into any of the pages ofa dotfuscator project(renaming, control flow, etc).

So now i am reinstalling. Hopefully this will fix it.

Hi mbaldini

It looks the problem only happens to the dotfuscator add-in.
So launching the VS into safemode or disabling the dotfuscator add-in(Tools >>Add-in Manager...) should fix the problem.

Please check it out.

Thanks.
