Visual Studio 2008 error in creating a new project on windows 7 ultimate

After installing windows 7 (clean install) and visual studio 2008, both with all updates. I cannot create a new project, it simply says in the status pane at the bottom, "Creating project 'WindowsFormsApplication1' ... project creation failed".  I cannot find any other information in the event log or elsewhere.  My computer is an Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q9400 with 4 GB, running 64-bit.  I have an XFX MB 790i.

I can open a project from our source control and it creates it on the local machine, but it cannot create a new project (I have tried, c#, VB, windows and web; all give the same error).  I can create a new solution, but when I try to create a new project the same error.

Any help appreciated.

Found the issue, but not the solution.

The issue is with Guidance Automated Extensions, when I unistalled them the error disappears.  If anyone knows of a fix for this please let me know as I need to be able to have Guidance Automated Extensions  installed.

Thanks!

Hi Innovative Dev,

Thank you for your post.

Based on your description, it seems that Guidance Automated Extensions blocked Visual Studio to create new project.

For your concern, you may try runningā€œdevenv.exe /SafeModeā€?via Start Menu >> "Run" Command. This can eliminate the possibility that third party Add-ins or packages are causing problems. (For more detailed VS command line switches information, see: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/xee0c8y7.aspx )
Or reboot the operating system to safe mode. This can help to isolate whether any other applications are interfering with Visual Studio.

Hope this helps.
