Unable to load "Untrusted Component" after installing ADO.net Data Services v1.5 CTP1 & CTP2

This error has been reproduced over fresh installations of Visual Studio 2008 Pro.

Here are directions on reproducing the issue:
  1. Install fresh copy of Visual Studio 2008 Professional on a windows xp machine.
  2. Install ASP.net MVC
  3. Install ADO.net Data Services v1.5 CTP1/2
  4. Add "New Item" & Select the ADO.net option
  5. I get the error below:
--"template attempted to load an untrusted component "Microsoft.VisualStudio.Data.ServicesWizard, version=9.0.0.0,"--

Hi Jeremy Sarda,

Thank you for your post and detail information.

Some clarification with you:
Do you mean that you installed ASP.NET MVC 1.0 / ASP.NET MVC 2 Preview 2 and ADO.NET Data Services v1.5 CTP1 / ADO.NET Data Services v1.5 CTP2 in order?

I've checked the requirements of these installers and found that Visual Studio 2008 SP1 are required for the installation.

For ASP.NET MVC 1.0 or ASP.NET MVC 2 Preview 2:

System Requirements
  • Supported Operating Systems: Windows 7; Windows Server 2003; Windows Server 2008; Windows Vista
.NET 3.5 SP1. Visual Studio 2008, Visual Studio 2008 SP1 or Visual Web Developer 2008 SP1 are required to use certain parts of this feature.

For ADO.NET Data Services v1.5 CTP1 or ADO.NET Data Services v1.5 CTP2:

System Requirements
  • Supported Operating Systems: Windows 7; Windows Server 2003; Windows Server 2008; Windows Vista; Windows XP Service Pack 2
- Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5 SP1

- Microsoft Visual Studio® 2008 SP1 or Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition

- Microsoft Silverlight® 2 SDK and Microsoft Silverlight Tools for Visual Studio 2008 SP1 (both optional)

Based on the screenshot, it seems that your Visual Studio 2008 has not been upgraded to SP1.
Thus, for your issue, I would suggest you to remove ADO.net Data Services v1.5 CTP1/2 and ASP.net MVC. Then upgrade VS2008 to SP1 (Please download SP1 from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=FBEE1648-7106-44A7-9649-6D9F6D58056E&displaylang=en) and reinstall ASP.net MVC and ADO.net Data Services v1.5 CTP.

Hope this helps. If you have any concern, please feel free to let me know.

Best regards,
Yichun Chen
