Problem installing VS2008 SP1 - VS does not get updated although no errors occur

Hi,

I tried installing VS2008 SP1. The installation went fine, however I don't think VS was upgraded. The .NET framework and SQL Compact edition got updated to SP1 though.

I found that VS had not been upgraded when I tried installing SQL Server 2008. After the numerous checks the setup found that VS 2008 did not have SP1 installed.

I did not have the VS2008 SP1 beta installed before. Despite of that I restored my system to the previous restore point and then ran a tool I saw on the VS2008 SP1 download page, which is supposed to remove SP1 beta and some updates. I did another installation of SP1 but the result was absolutely the same. VS does not seem to be upgraded to SP1 and I can't install SQL Server 2008.

I also tried running the upgrade multiple times and every time it finds that three C++ Runtime componentshave not been installed. The package seems to install them without errors but next time I run SP1 it still shows those three components as not installed. I suppose this might be part of the problem as to why VS is not getting upgraded.

Could anyone please give me a hint as to whey the SP1 upgrade did not work and how I can fix it? I am running Vista SP1.

Thanks

What does Help > About dialog of Visual Studio 2008 say?
Also is there any warning or errors regarding VS 2008 in the Event viewer? (start > run > "eventvwr")

Thanks.

The VC runtimes will always be reinstalled, so there is probably no problem with them.

Can youdownload the run the log collection utility, then post %TEMP%\vslogs.cab to a server and provide me the URL?

If you need server space, you can easily sign up for free 5 GB from http://skydrive.live.com with only your Live Passport.
