Hello!

I have a problem with WCSF 2.0 and the GAX/GAT February 2008 Final Release. If Iappend PublicAssemblies\X to the <probing privatePath="PrivateAssemblies;PublicAssemblies;PublicAssemblies\X"/>element in devenv.exe.config and copy all assemblies from the WCSF guidance package install folder to the X folder I can create anew web client software factorysolution.

If I don't copy the assemblies the WCSF solution creation dialog shows but when I press Ok I get a "project creation failed" message in the status bar of Visual Studio.It looks like the path to the WCSF inC:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Recipe Framework\RecipeFramework9.0.xml is not appended to the "recipe framework path"??.

I have had two prior versions of GAX/GAT on the machine (XP) but uninstalled everything before I tried the new version of GAX/GAT and WCSF 2.0. When the WCSF failed i uninstalled again and ran the GAX troubleshooting tool and deleted all *practices* dll from the VS2005 and VS2008 install folders and the registry entries reported by the tool before i re-installed the new versions. However, I guess I must have missed something because GAX/GAT and WCSF 2.0 works perfect on my home Vista machine (this one).

At work we now have two machines that have the problem above and many more that will need the new versions. We can not re-install them all.... Any ideas?

I looked at the GAX main manifest file and the path seems just ok:

what is the path that is not looking good for you?

You shouldn't have to add another path to the VS probing path, is this something WCSF support directed you to do?

Are other guidance packages -besides WCSF- installed and working ok on the same box where WCSF fails?

Yes, I have contacted WCSF support but I'm not sure if this is related to GAX/GAT or WCSF. I agree that thepath in the GAX main mainifest is OK but the strange thing is that I get assembly bind failures.

I added the new probing path (my own idea, don't blaim WCSF support :-)) just to see if the problem would go away and it did. This makes me belive that there is some problem with assemly loading. I have to get WCSF to work without the extra probing path.

I have other guidance packages working in VS2005 but non in VS2008.

Hi Tomas,
Have you was using GAX Jul2007 for Orcas Beta1 or Beta2 before? If so, please try to do what Lerocha was posted @ codeplex, http://www.codeplex.com/websf/WorkItem/View.aspx?WorkItemId=15458, I mean remove the binding redirect from the devenv.config. That was a redirected needed for beta1 and beta2 Orcas.

Let me know it that not solve your issue.

Hi and thanks Jose but I already checked that as I wrote on CodePlex. The previous version I refer to below is GAX Jul2007.

Unfortunately I did not have an assembly redirect for Microsoft.VisualStudio.TemplateWizardInterface in devenv.exe.config. I installed VS2008 after I installed the previous versions of the GAX and GAT. Everyting works as it should now that I have added the PublicAssemblies\WCSF probing (see attached file) and copied the DLLs (NOT the Templates and Recipes folders) from C:\Program Files\Microsoft Web Client Software Factory February 2008\WCSF Guidance Package to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE\PublicAssemblies\WCSF. Without the DLLs in that directory solution creation fail.

The strange thing is that the SolutionPropertiesPage dialog (where you select Enterprise Library folder etc) shows even when the Microsoft.Practices.WebClientFactory.GuidancePackage.dll is NOT in PublicAssemblies\WCSF so VS must be able to find the Microsoft.Practices.WebClientFactory.GuidancePackage.dll during the initial phase of solution creation but not after I press OK (or any other control) in the wizard.

When my problems started I installed the source for WCSF and added a breakpoint in SolutionPropertiesPage.OnBrowseSupportingLibraryClick and in the constructor. I hit the breakpoint in the constructor but never the one in OnBrowseSupportingLibraryClick. When I clicked the _browseSupportingLibraryButton I got binding errors and ended up in a Dispose method :-(.

Our old in-house developed Software Factories for VS2005 still work as expected though.

I have later updated my issue on Codeplex with two Fusion log files (one with modified probing path that makethe factory workand one without the extra probing so the factory fail). I don't know if anyone can make sense of them but who knows.
