Problem with GAT not loading templates properly
Hi,

I have installed GAX/GAT Feb 2008 on VS2008.

(background : I had to manually remove one of the custom guidance package from the registry since uninstallation was giving a fatal error)

GAT does not install the metaguidance package templates correctly. In visual studio under guidance Packages , i see three template projects. ideally there should be only one project template for the metagudiance package. Why does this happen? i uninstalled and reinstalled/repaired GAT/GAX but that doesnt help.

The same happens when i install my custom guidance package, there also, the templates do not load properly and there are multiple VStemplates instead of one custom guidance package project template. Also i get the "Value provider =null" error on click of the guidance package template.

I know i can get the templates to load properly using "devenv\resetskippkgs" command. But i want to know "Why" this happens? and i how can i solve this permanently? I even uninstalled and repaired VS2008before installing GAT/GAXbut this problem occurs repeatedly when ever a guidance package is uninstalled and re-installed.

devenv /resetskippkgs will not solve your issue, it just reenable the loading of those packages which has problems on its initialization.

Regarding your particular issue, it seems that you has the GAX/GAT installation corrupted, event if you have made changes on the registry by hand. In order to know the current state of your GAX/GAT installation please, run the GaxTroubleshooter, you can downloadit from here
then post the output log

Hi,

for some reason you have broken your GAX/GAT installation, did you try to repair both installations?
the installation could get broken if you change the any of the gax related registry keys or if you change by hand the recipeframework.xml file, so please try to repair both installations using each msi files.

Ok

- Download the very latest version of the gaxtroubleshooter
- Run the gaxtroubleshooter with the /reregister switch

hopefuly it should fix the issue if not, please post again the troubleshooter output.
