installation of extentions fails

Hi,

Could someone help me.

When I install the Guidance Automation Extensions (February 2007 Community Technology Preview), I get following exception at the very end (after which the installation is rollbacked):

--

Value cannot be null.
Parameter name: s

Thanks a lot,

Steve

here you have 2 posts that could be related to this problem:

http://blogs.msdn.com/donsmith/archive/2006/11/30/installing-software-factories-on-vista.aspx (see the comments, not the mail post)

http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1329029&SiteID=1&pageid=0#1446925

basically you will find that:
1- Closing all instaces of visual studio before starting the GAX installer could fix the issue.
2- There could be some issues if VS2003 is installed in the same machine.

Hi Steve, I think it could be something related to the UI (because of the kind of error and the moment it occurs). Could you try to install the MSI using the msiexec quite option (msiexec.exe /quite GAX.msi for example)? Also some more context information about the OS, Visual Studio version that you are using would be useful.

Thanks,
-Adrian

Hi Adrian,

I executed following command:

msiexec.exe /quiet /l "c:\temp\evLog.evt" /i GuidanceAutomationExtensions.msi

I user Visual studio 2005 (version 8.0.50727.762) on windows XP.

The event log (evLog.evt)contains this info:

Do you have Windows Installer 3.1 installed? If you don't, you could try installing it and then try to install GAX again.
Adrian Alonso  Thursday, August 02, 2007 12:18 PM

Adrian,

The version of the microsoft installer is: Windows ® Installer. V 3.01.4000.1830

I also tried to install the Guidance automationextension february2007 CTP on a windows server 2003 (SP1). I get the same exception.

Is there another way to install the software?I can also provide more output from the microsoft installer ...

kind regards,

Steve
