After installing the GAX July 2007 CTP and the Toolkit the Guidance Package manager doesn't appear in visual studio 2008. Also the create gp projects dont appear in the new project dialog.

This seems to be an isolated case as other PC's in our team have all installed without issues.

anyone know what to look for?

Basically is verify which version of Microsoft.VisualStudio.TemplateWizard you have at VSINTALLDIR\Common7\IDE. If it's different than 9.0, you should have to remove the binding redirect from your devenv.config file.

Can you provide us with more info about your environment? Which OS/VS SKU are you running? Do you have both VS2005 and VS2008 installed? Did you go through an uninstall of previous GAX version and installation of the July one?

The machine is Pentium 4 3Ghz with 2Gb of Ram

Running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition Service pack 2

This machine was built from a fresh OS with the following:

MS VSS 2005 client tools

The other server machines in our dev group have had the Orcas Beta2 build on before un-installing and then installing the RTMversion which is to my knowledge the only difference.

Hi Wes,

Are you running a 32bit or 64bit edition of the OS? GAX and GAT were not tested under server OSs (altough by experience from other it seems to work ok) nor under 64bit OSs (I can think of a few things that may fail for sure in this case).

If confirm that you're running a 32bit Windows 2003, then, altough it was not tested under it, we could try a few things and see if we can make it work.

I was trying to reproduce this issue with no luck. But one thing that could be confuse is that the Guidance Package Manager command at Tools menu only appears when a Solutions is opened. Did you try with a Solution opened?

When you try enable the guidance package "Guidance Package Development"

The following error occurs:

"Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.TemplateWizardInterface, Version=9.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one if its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040)"

The option to create a guidance package project is missing.

This only happens on machines that have never had VS 2008 Beta 2 installed on it.
