I am trying to install a new version of the Guidance Automation Extensions (July 2007 CTP). I had a previous version that did not uninstall very nicely. So I followed all the posts and removed it manually. Now I get passed the "Previous Version Installed" message. The install works up until the end, throws a blank error message box and then rolls back. I have tried running the installer as admin and it still does not work. Please take a look at a log file named "gax-[randomnumber].log" that should be generated per each install attempt in your users' temp directory. That file contains additional information of what's going on during install/uninstall and should be a good point to start troubleshooting. If in doubt, please post the file contents here.

I am having a similar problem, only on XP, and using Visual Studio Team System for developers. I have looked for a log file, and cannot find it.

This is becoming quite frustrating. I can't begin to express how many hours have been wasted due to lousy uninstalls that seem to remove items required by prerequisite installs. It is certainly equivalent to the amount of time purportedly saved by actually using the GAX packages.

Is there some place to find a complete set of instructions on removing the packages manually, and how to recover from these errors? Like where to download and install the items that are required but don't seem to be part of the install package itself?
