GAT July 2007 and SCSF fails to install on Vista and VS 2008

Hi,

Something is fundamentally wrong.

I was able to install/uninstall GAX July, but can't move any further. GAT does not recognize FAX presence and SCSF fails with 2826 error.

I've tried MSI Clean up for GAXfollowing withre-install with no difference in result.

GAX Troubleshooter shows too little records comparing with others dumps, published online.

Please, advise!

Vladimir, you should not install GAT July 2007 CTP on VS 2008. It was released for VS2008 Beta2 only.

Usethe newly released February 2008 GAX/GAT (http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2855100&SiteID=1)

Can you describe in greater detail what where your exact steps starting from when your box didn't have GAT at all? You're saying that you could install GAX and uninstall it. Did you install it first for VS2005 and then for VS2008? Did you ever installed other packages? Any further info would help the guessing game.

Thank you very much for looking into it. It is a little bit messy.

The only excuse I have on my side is that I had a good experience installing and working with GAX,GAT and SCSF on a different computer with VS2005 and WinXP. So I was not expecting much of the problem starting this one, but ..

I have VS 2005 installed on the computer for while. No GAX. I wanted to start with VS 2008, so:

- Installed VS 2008 in default directory;

- Installed GAX July 2007 for Orcas in default directory, by double clicking on a msi file;

- Installed GAT July 2007, the same way;

- Realized that, by launching VS 2008 that I do not see Guidance project templates under Other Projects/Extensibility in New Project as well as GAX Manager under Tools;

- Noticed that I cannot create a new project �?“Project creation failed�?/font>

- Found a solution? by applying a fix from http://petesbloggerama.blogspot.com/2007/10/visual-studio-2008-orcas-creation.html by commenting out a line in devenv.exe.config file.

- The Extensibility template has appeared in VS.

- Attempted to install SCSF, got 2826 error. Decided since I did not used Administration level for GAX and GAT installs it has caused the problems with SCSF now.

- Rolled back GAT and GAX by using System Restore.

- Install GAX from command line with Administration privileges.

- Fix VS devenv.exe.config as above. Launched VS and found that it is missing most of the new project templates.

- Repaired VS.

- Attempted to install GAT �?fail to locate GAX.

- Panicked!

- Rolled back GAX and VS 2008 with System Restore and reinstall VS 2008 afresh.

- Installed GAX from command line with Admin.

- ix VS devenv.exe.config as above.

- Attempted GAT with the same fail to locate GAX.

- Uninstall GAS, use MSI Clean tool.

- From this point I can install/uninstall GAX, but GAT fails to find it and SCSF fails with 2826 error.
