GAT and DSL

Hello,

I'm starting some readings about Software Factories and MS approach about this subject. After a few blogs, articles and forums, I'm a little confused on the following:

In Visual Studio, we can have Guidance Automation Toolkit and Domain-Specific Language Tools. Although both have mechanisms in order to improve software development, I'm not really sure about the context of each one.

My question is,presuming that both can be considered in the Software Factories world, wich are the common scenarios of use for each one? Can they be complementary?

Many thanks.

Best regards.

Hi,

Yes, they can be complementary! A perfect example of a combination of DSL and GAT packages is Service Factory Modeling Edition. Have a look at it and you will see the power of a combination of these tools.

Further, some time ago we did a series about Building Software Factories. This post in particulary talks about the available tooling (at that time) and how they can be used related to software factories.

(This series is partly rewritten and available on MSDN also.)

Sorry for this shameless plug of my own content but I really hope it helps :-)
