Flailing with Guidance Automation Extensions and Web Service Software Factory and subsequent uninstall

I was interested in generating a web service so I found "Web Service Software Factory - December 2006" on the internet and downloaded it. Of course I then needed the Guidance Automation Extensions so I downloaded them...but after hours of trying to get the stuff to compile and not finding any unified "how to" source I never did figure out how to use the product. Major disappointment because for all my readings about the product, and my ongoing interest in code generation, this sounded interesting. However, none of the projects would compile due to missing resources/broken references.

After feeling like this product and I had wasted too much time together trying to fix the broken references I tried to uninstall and get the following message which I do not understand. Perhaps somebody can help me figure out what I did during my attempts to fix the broken references that have now caused the following error messages:

An exception occurred while uninstalling. This exception will be ignored and the uninstall will continue. However, the application might not be fully uninstalled after the uninstall is complete. à The uninstallation of the Guidance Automation Runtime cannot be done.

You must first uninstall the following guidance package(s): ASMXGuidancePackage, WCFGuidancePackage, DataAccessGuidancePackage, WCFSecurityGuidancePackage

Can somebody tell me what this means and how I might go about cleaning my machine?

I can not use Add Remove Programs to remove either of the former installs.

Thank you

Hi,

Sorry to hear you have so much troubles getting Service Factory to work! Is Service Factory itself working on your machine? it should have been installed and should work even without compiling the source code. You might want to ask your question about your issues with Service Factory at the Service Factory home page.

About your problem uninstalling GAT. You can only uninstall it if all packages are removed from your machine. This means you first have to uninstall Service Factory from your machine before you can uninstall GAT. If for some reason Service Factory doesn't uninstall correctly, which means the Service Factory packages are not removed, you can remove them manually by using this the information that is in this post (somewhere in the middle of the thread). This explains how to manually remove packages that you can't remove your machine anymore from your machine.
