If I install the Feb 07 GAX and GAT, the Dec 06 release of the WSSF fails with the error:
"This installer requires the Guidance Automation Extensions June 2006 CTP which is not present on the computer. Please install it and try again."
I'm using Win XP SP2, VS 2k5 Pro SP1. Also have AJAX framework installed, and a couple of other VS Add-Ins. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi Andy -
While the February 2007 CTP of GAX was designed to work with guidance packages creates with the June 2006 CTP, the installers for a couple of our factories were hard-wired to check for only the June 2006 release. To resolve this, we are releasing new installers for the Web Service Software Factory and Mobile Client Software Factory. The new Web Service Software Factory MSI is now available from http://msdn.microsoft.com/servicefactory. We ran into some hiccups getting the new Mobile Client Software Factory MSI available, which is why we temporarily pulled the new GAX release from the web. Next week we'll be releasing the new Mobile Client Software Factory and re-releasing the February CTP of GAX. Note that these new factory MSIs have no changes to the factories themselves, only to the GAX detection logic in the installers. The existing Web Client and Smart Client factory installerswill work with the new GAX.
Hope this helps

Thank youTom, that does help.
Sorry about posting the same message on your blog post about the GAX release - found that before I found this forum. I'd only started looking into GA on Friday, coincidentally just after the releases went up on the web.
Is there any way that we could sign up to a central place for alerts relating to releases for product lines we use? As developers, and I'm sure you find the same, it can be hard to keep track of all the releases, potential dates, actual release dates, withdrawals etc.. Currently the only way is to do regular trawls of blogs and sites and just keep one ear to the ground. It would be great if, for things like AJAX, GAX/GAT/factories, we could request notifications by email/other in some consistent way for all the things that we use. Maybe there is a way already, and I've missed it?

Thanks Andy. We try to communicate all of our new releases via headlines and RSS feeds on http://msdn.microsoft.com/practices. Plans for upcoming releases are provided at http://msdn.microsoft.com/practices/UpcomingRel/default.aspx.
As I mentioned before, we tried to release the February 2007 CTP of GAX on Friday, but since we needed to roll back the release we didn't publish the headlines or any information about the release - apologies again for the confusion this caused. All of this information should be available early next week.

Tom,
Understood re: the release on Friday. It was a bizarre coincidence of timing for me, having that afternoon decided to sit down with GA for a weekend.
I hopethe previous postsdidn't come across as criticism, I think its a fantastic set of tools. Good luck with this weeks release.

Just to give everyone a quick update, we're still dealing with some issues with the MCSF installer so the GAT/GAX Feb 2007 CTP won't be out today. I'm expecting we'll get this out later this week. Thanks for your patience!

Hello Tom,
I just took the mobile class here in las vegas with Woody and Thim Heuer and the documentatin theyprovidedlinks to the mobile software factory that still requires the June 2006 GAX andGAT, and their GAX and GATlinks point to the feb 2007 links, in other words their document links seem to be broken, theypoint to the latest and not the specific version.
Any ideas on when the mobile factory will be available that can handle the feb 2007 relase of GAX and GAT? it must work some how because it was working in the class,
Alternatively maybe you can provide us with a link to the GAX and GAT for the June 2006 relase which is probalby what they did to get the mobile factory to install.
Cordially,

Hi Lucho,
As far as I know the MCSF MSI should have been updated to work with the latest GAX/GAT bits from Feb07 CTP. Have you downloaded the very la test MCSF MSI or are you using one (maybe outdated) provided in that course you mention you took?

Hi There, is there an update on this as don't seem able to install MCSF?
My Environment:
Vista ultimate x64,
vs 2005 sp1 + vista,
WM5/WM6 SDKs,
WCF/WPF toolkits,
Silverlight beta,
Enterprise library 3,
GAX and GAT feb 07 (freshly downloaded so i don't think they are the pulled versions)
CAB Dec 05,
SCSF June 06,
WSSF Dec 06 refresh,
WCSF Jan 07
These appear to have installed correctly but i havent used them as I am building a fresh machine..
So far I have been unable to install the MCSF (July 06 refresh)which fails with the error "installer requires GAT June 06 CTP or later". The prerequisite links on the MCSF download page point to GAT and GAX feb 07.
I have tried uninstalling all the patterns and practices extensions and reinstalling but to no avail... any ideas anyone?
TIA

Hi Josh,
Glad you hear you could make it install on x64! btw, you may want to post this to the WebClient SF Forum too...

I have the same problem, but with 32-bit Vista, VS 2005. It says GAT is not installed even though it is. I tried Josh's technique, but as I don't have 64-bit Vista, obviously the same keys
are not going to work. Is there a simple process I can follow to get
the right keys?
I tried editing the GatRegistry and make it the same as GtxRegistry in the msi file, but to no avail. |

Hi,
I am also having this same problem. The Mobile Client Software Factory 2006 will not install saying it needs the "Guidance Automation Toolkit 2006 DTP or later". The links to the toolkit from this page:
http://www.microsoft.com/DownLoads/details.aspx?FamilyID=f9176708-9f57-4c0f-97fb-f9c65a9bbf22&displaylang=en
return '404'
I have installed the latest guidance automation toolkit for VS 2005 and VS 2008 - no difference.
I have bog standard Windows XP. - Edited byJohn Roberts _2_ Thursday, October 09, 2008 7:31 PM
