Can't install GAT on VS2008

I have a clean installation of VS2008 on WIN2008. Installed GAX (7/1/2007) successfully. When I try to install GAT (7/1/2007), I get "C# Language is not installed. Do you want to see information of the product? Click Yes to be directed to a web page, click No to exit."

Clicking yes, takes me to http://msdn.microsoft.com/vcsharp/productinfo/, which does not actually exist. Then I'm redirected to an outdated page of general VS2005 information.

Note:

- The C# language is indeed installed.

Hi Jhon,

are you running 2005 and 2008 side by side?

Hi John,

What OS are you running?

>>>The SQL Server setup automatically installs a special copy of VS2005.

I believe you mean the SQL Management Explorer which uses the VS IDE (what is now known as The Shell) but it's not really a Visual Studio SKU (like Standard, Professional, Team System, etc). The entries for this may be fooling the GAX installer into thinking VS 2005 is installed on your box. At any rate, by your description this shouldn't be a problem.

>>>
Examining the package load analyzer shows that there was a problem loading the recipe framework
>>>It appears there are some dependent assemblies missing.
>>>I have not been able to determine which ones are missing.

This is very important and probably the cause of why GAX is not working for you. Please run Fusion Viewer to log failed assemblies bindings, this will give you the name of the assembly (plus version info, etc) which can't be found. Based on this we will be able to troubleshoot much better what's going on your box.

thanks,
-Victor.

I installed VS2008 on a system that also has SQL Server 2005 installed. The SQL Server setup automatically installs a special copy of VS2005. When installing the GAX, it asks whether to install GAX for VS2005 or VS Codename "Orcas". I chose the "Orcas" option.

After installing the GAX, I then installed the GAT. It ran to completion without prompting for a target environment. When I then open VS2008, there is no guidance package manager and there are no project templates for creating a guidance package.

Examining the package load analyzer shows that there was a problem loading the recipe framework. It appears there are some dependent assemblies missing. I have not been able to determine which ones are missing.

Examining the VS2008 installation folders, there are no project or item templates related to GAX/GAT.
