Could not repro installation problems at this point.
Let us know if you can give us more specifics.

In the meantime, can you try on a different machine? Or virtual machine?

Also, better locale support is coming in the next version, which should be out within a couple weeks.

Thanks!

hello,

i've had the same problems installing GAT or any other Guidance Package.
The reason was a key named AutoRun under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Command Processor
in the registry. In this key there are programs defined which are run whenever
a DOS-Box is opened. In my case i've defined vsvars32.bat to run to have
the VS2005 tools in my path. After renaming/deleting the AutoRun-Key
the installation runs fine.

Hope that helps

Oliver

Language?
kzu  Sunday, May 14, 2006 1:24 AM
VB.Net
Matt_343  Thursday, May 18, 2006 7:37 PM
I mean *culture language* ;-)
kzu  Saturday, May 20, 2006 1:03 PM
Ha, sorry English. Though I am told that programmers speak their own language. :D

So you only have VS Pro with VB only installed? You don't have C# at all?
kzu  Monday, May 29, 2006 2:28 PM
Sorry for taking so long to reply. No I have C# installed also.

I tried my home pc worked fine, but my work pc did not. I will try again at work.

I am also having trouble. I can install the GAX but the GAT installation errors out just as the DOS Window opens up. I usually get a "Value was not what was expected" error, but am now getting a Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object" error.

Do you have local admin rights on your work pc. Do you control your sec policies or are they enforced by Active Directory? If you do not have local admin rights, see if you can be added to the local admin group if your corp policy allows. Then try the install ... just a thought ...

I do have local admin rights on the PC. Which local sec policy should I examine?
David Solivan  Wednesday, June 21, 2006 8:34 PM

My area of expertise is not sec policies unfortunately ... it was just a wild guess because often at work our sec policies cause issues as they are pushed down by AD and can interfere even if you have local admin rights ... so ... I am sorry I cannot be of much more help.

Best regards,

Like Oliver suggested, getting rid of the AutoRuns entry in the registry, did the trick for me - The guidance package installs successfully - thanks Oliver for the tip

I have also had this happen on GAT installation and now EntLib 3.1 installation. As mentioned before, the GAX installs fine but GAT pops up the error message.

Thanks to previous posters pointing to the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Command Processor\AutoRun value I was able to complete both installations (GAT and EntLib 3.1) without additional errors.

My AutoRun value was set to the following (gleaned fromthis post by Aaron Margosis: http://blogs.msdn.com/aaron_margosis/archive/2007/02/22/setting-color-for-all-cmd-shells-based-on-admin-elevation-status.aspx)

bootcfg /query >nul 2>nul && (color 47 && title Administrative Command Prompt) || (color 17 && title Command Prompt)

There is an updated post on his blog about compile issues with this command in your AutoRun. The updated post is at: http://blogs.msdn.com/aaron_margosis/archive/2007/06/27/follow-up-on-setting-color-for-all-cmd-shells-based-on-admin-elevation-status.aspx

Hope this helps.
