Is there a method that can be used to subject dialog boxes and the code they call to automated testing? Can the dialog output be re-directed to a test program and the test program provide the user input?

I have looked closely at all the section of the Visual Studio group and none seem to be clearly appropriate for this question. This section is my best guess.
