missing Find Results 1 window in Debug mode [solved]

I have a mysterious problem and would really appreciate any help. This is Visual Studio 2005 Pro.

My Find Results 1 window is missing when I am in Debug mode. I can do a search and designate Find Results 1 but the window does not reveal itself. Find Results 2 is still working fine. When I am not in Debug mode, both of them work fine.

It is like the interface has lost all knowledge of the window. When I go into Debugging, the Find Results 1 tab/window disappears and does not return until I am out of that mode. If I go to View->Find Results-> Find Results 1, nothing happens. I can't get toexisting search results and I am limited to only one search using Find Results2 until I get out of Debug mode.

Any ideas what is going on here? Any chance that I will lose Find Results 2?

Thanks for any help!

It sounds like your Visual Studio window settings somehow got corupted. You can probably fix this by reseting your window layouts back to the default with Tools->Import and Export Settings.

Well, after maybe a couple of months of this, I finally found Find Results 1. I happened to have done something to rearrange my desktop and I must have moved the Visual Studio window down a bit this time when I was running in Debug mode. Suddenly I noticed a funky looking icon on my desktop, a tiny rectangle that responded with a tooltip when I move over it. Tooltip said "Find Results 1", and then I was able to get the corners to expand and my window is back. Or rather, it was probably always there hiding behind VS in the most compressed form possible. No idea how it got off the VS layout and minimized to almost nothing, but I am happy to have it back, and thanks to all who looked into the issue.

I was having this exact same problem, and I saw your solution that the window must have been compressed. In my case, we are running Vista with the sidebar to the far right. The Find window was behind the sidebar, hanging entirely off-screen except for a 1-pixel border along the far right edge.

I found it by going to Visual Studio, hitting Ctrl-F to bring up the window, then hitting the "context menu key" on the keyboard (next to the right Ctrl key). This made a context menu appear right next to the (almost hidden) Find Window, and from there, it was easy to mouse over and see the Size cursor appear.

I had a similar experience, but I didn't want to reset my settings because I'd lose all my changes I had made.  Plus, my Find Results 1 window was actually off of the screen.  If you want to get the window back, without resulting to deleting your settings here's what you can do:
1.  View->Find Results->Find Results 1  <--- this will make it the focus
2.  Alt + -  <--- Alt plus the hyphen character, will bring up the menu that comes off of the task bar
3.  Use the arrow keys to select move, and press enter. (Should be the only option)
4.  Use the arrow keys to move the window onto the screen and press enter when done.  From there you can use the mouse to put wherever you want.
