I have window vista I am having few problem installing visual basic express 2008, although I was able to install it eventually but it doesn't work properly For example, when I start new project, the form1.vb doesn't appear in the design window and when I try to double click it gives serviceInstance NULL warning. I still trying to figure out the problem, but just a quick question I have visual studio 6.0 installed as well, do I have to uninstall visual studio 6.0 ?

Hi observer_2008,
If it doesn't work, redo your computer, start from scratch or what i normally do is run it on Virtual PC or VMware.

Hope it works,
Trent

Dear M,

Byref means by reference and Byval means by value. They are ways are of passing arguments into a sub routine or function. A variable passed byval passes a value of the varible. When passing byref that means the address of the variable is passed.

No, You can have more than oneversion of visual studio in your system , I have windows Vista too and i have installed4 versions of visual studio(2005,6.0,2008,2010) but I don't have problem with it, make sure if your system is up to date.

I think the problem is because the version of vb.net 2008 expressis incompleteand we could not compare or update a code toVStudio 2008 the tools are diferent. but if you convert a code from vb.net 2008express to VStudio 2008 it will work good .

I think it is the problem.

I have a similar problem to several others here. I have done the install of the VB express 2008 including the last 2 were full clean installs. I have the Intro to VB class and the progarm was fine for the first chapter of tutorials and exercises. When I got to chapter 2 the MainForm (Designer).vib tab and the design form will not appear for the second tutuorial start. The file is there and unccorrupted becuase I can run it. If I double click in the Solutions Explorer on the file I get the Code Editor instead of the Designer tab. I am running Vista with the SP 2 installed and have spent more hours than I care to count trying to resolve this. There are also others in the class attempting to figure this out without success to date. Thank you for your assistance.

I like Visual Studio 2008 because it is the latest. Maybe It might have fixed errors in VS 2005 ( I haven't used 2005 yet) and has newer options.

Sorry if there is any mistake, this is my first forum post on MSDN.
