Out of frustration, I'd like to warn you all that the release of Visual Studio 2005 is horribly unstable !! Please beware before upgrading. We've upgraded and it wasn't worth it. I regret it ! |

Please elaborate - what exactly do you mean by "horribly unstable"? What were you trying to do, and what was the result? Have you filed a bug?

I have filed a bug. I must say that so far it is the most unstable product I have worked with in 10 years of IT. This is unfortunate because some of the features I was really looking forward to using. Unfortunately I can not seem to go an entire 45 mins without it crashing. I have turned off all of the auto-everything I can think of and while this means it only crashes once or twice a day it means things will often not compile so I need to close VS and restart it and then it will work fine. I am running on server2003 and I never installed the beta version. The errors happend whenever I make changes to the code but they appear to me to be random. I would warn everyone of not adopting 2005 until a major service pack has been released. |

I have never had a problem myself and I run VS2005 for hours on end while I am working. I would check your system as that seems to be where the problem is, not with VS2005. |

We have both the Express Editions and the Visual Studio Team Edition installed (seperate machines for both). We have no issues with stability at all.
Coming from Visual Studio .NET 2003 Enterprise to the new 2005 Team Edition is an absolute dream for us. Sorry you're having so many problems. I would be more concerned that it's a bad installation than that it's the Studio itself. |

I used both, Visual Basic Express Beta 1 & 2 and I had the impression that Beta 1 was far more stable than Beta 2. (I have to say that I used to develop libraries/console applications) Now with the full version, I get very random compiler crashes which force me to restart my environment. Very annoying but the rest is stable...

Wow, I began with VE Express Beta II. I found it to be wonderful and actually spent hundreds and hundereds of hours on it.
OK, it didn't have a call stack and I obtained the full V2005 Team Suite RC1 and finally the full release. I've seen improvements with every version. Even the final release had taken care of a couple of minor bugs.
Now, I've spent thousands of really demanding hours with VS2005. I find it to be incredibly stable, solid and a beautiful product.

Well, I've been using it for about two weeks and have had no problems. The only item that I find difficult is the Visual C++.NET. I found a walk through at the Mictosoft web site. I used the sample program, but the compiler couldn't locate the source file. Imagine that. Give more details as to what concerns you.

I had problems when I installed SQL Server Express first, on a machine that had MSDE on it and on one that did not. Both gave me empty interfaces in the management console, and in other unrelated software.
A carefull uninstall and reboot fixed the msde-free box but nothing could fix the one with msde. Not surprising when I consider how much software I've installed, played with and removed from it - it's my little sandbox.
So I rebuilt it clean and took the advise to use the VB install to install SQL. Works a treat and I've been bashing away on it for 12 and 14 hours at a stretch. Maybe there are problems with the full edition, but the express works like a treat: and that is a rare thing for me to say about any MS product.

mnoon, you're right, thats what i'm doing, i'm putting Java code into a VB envionment. I guess I'm just as stupid as you to be doing so. Damn, i wish I was smarter. Why don't you post a mature response instead of having us waste our time reading your garbage.
