using VS2008 to create reports for Reporting Services 2005 (SQL2005)

I've read some of the posts where everyone is saying it's not possible to develop reports in VS2008 for RS 2005. if that is still the case, where can i get VS2005 express??

i only have vs2003 and vs2008 so right now i'm in a fix because i really need to create reports in VS2005.

if there are any other solutions for me to create a report for RS2005 please also post! thanks.

Hi SharlyneT,

Visual Studio (both 2005 and 2008) doesn't support creating report in reporting service natively. You have to install BI project client tool to support it. The client tool is included in SQL installation disc. However, currently, SQL 2005's client tool doesn't support to integrate with VS 2008. Now you have two options:

1. Install SQL 2005 BI client tool
It doesn't require VS 2005 installed on the machine. After installation, you will see a new instance of VS 2005 installed. After you open it, it only contains BI project support but no other features like C#, VB. It will not impact the existing VS 2008.

2. Install SQL 2008 BI client tool
If you have disc for SQL 2008, you can install the client tool which will integrate with existing VS 2008.
