Install error : Setup is unable to find/load htmllite.dll

ok i just downloaded and burned the iso image for Visual Studio Express 2008.

When i try to install C# i got this error.

I tried looking in the formus, and ended up to an old Visual Studio 2005 thread which said to copy the cd to the hard disk to a folder named CD1 etc and try to run it from there..that didnt work either (same error).

Any suggestions pls?

Hi pelorios,

Your problem is weird, and I doubt that the file which you downloaded is corrupt; generally speaking, the htmllite.dll was placed in the root of the CD, Setup folder.

I want to recommend you that try to download the Visual Studio express again to fix this issue; you can download Visual Basic, Visual C#, Visual Web Developer, Visual C++ separately rather than All-in-One DVD.

And do you know the famous software WinRAR? It can extract the files from an ISO file to your disk.

Xun

Hi Xun,

Well, thats good to know. I guess problem solved then, sort of, since i did manage to install but could not get the all in one DVD. Not to worry i can always redownload on the new PC. Last point of note, is it possible to find the setup file. If i remember correctly the download process is seemless, i.e download and install happens in one go.

Its no biggy, in the end the object is to get it install and working. It is and i am happy with it. So thank you for taking the time, and all the best.

Regards,

CI

Hi pelorios,

As far as I know, if you want to install Visual Studio Express, you should run the setup.exe file in the CD1 folder.

And perhaps the reason which caused your problem is you download the Visual C# express unsuccessfully, please download the ISO file again from the below URL.

http://www.microsoft.com/express/download/

And then you can extract the ISO file by using WinRAR.

Hi Xun,

Thanks for your reply. Actualy the site you mention is the siteI downloaded from in the first place. Downloaded the ISO image (all in one DVD) maybe I didnt mention that on my first post.

Tried the other express installations from the DVD, same message.

Another funny thing, [whentheDVD is inserteda popup window appears (plug and play) withthe four instalation logosfor the four applications (same pictures as in site) ] whenmouse overthe C# product to clickfor install, the picture changes to the C++ instead, the installation starts for the C# after all, but fails as mentioned. So the logo on the mousover changes, only for C#, the others remain the same as they should. Thought worth mentioning since graphics are really good looking and it matters to make a good first impression.

As mentioned, found the problem in the forums listed but not exactly resolved, it was referenced to another thread.

Anyone else have had this, Xun any ideas, maybe downloading again, maybe try burning the ISO image again but burn it with an internallabel for the DVD or something?

CI

Hi again Xun,

Thanks for coming back. I actually downloaded it. It worked.

However i am concerned that i dont have an image of the setup on the DVD as i will be upgrading to a new PC soon with Vista, multithread proccesors etc, and i would like very much to be able to installthese on the new PC also, especiallysince Iread somewhere that the service (download) is going to end at some point. Is this true? Because then without the DVD i wont be able to install it in the new machine...

Hi pelorios,

Does not worry the VS Express download service, I think it will works for a long time. You can just copy the setup file to the hard disk or use the DVD.

I got the same error 2 or 3 times trying to installa Visual Studio 2008 Pro ISO download with WinRar. Finally it worked on aboutthe 4th try. Even though it will error out, try clicking the vs_setup.msi file then go back and run setup.exe -in my case it seemed to have jarred something lose and then setup ran. Glad I didn't have to download it again as it took all night.
