I tried to install The Sql Server express 2008, it got through all the pre-reqs but I found I already had a default SQL Server when it went to install the Sql 2008.. Since I wanted 2008 as default, I canceled and went and deleted the SQL install from the add remove.
Then I returned to install, it moved through all the prereq's quickly and then spent a long time downloading SQL Express, but in the end it errored with "the downloaded file appears to be corrupt.
I looked for something to delete in add remove, but it doesn't seem to be in register, I have restarted computer.. But I always come back to file appears to be corrupt. It does not seem to try to download a new version of SQL Express now, it just seems to think it needs to install it, but can't because it's corrupt, any way that I can get it to re-download a hopefully good copy of SQL Express?
Would removing the Microsoft Sql Server 2008 setup & support files help? It may be what is indicating that the file is downloaded already. But I fear if it is not, I may loose a part of the installation I can't get back because something else says it has already been installed, and will not reinstall it again. Something else still installed is Microsoft SQL server Native client. | | moosetracker Thursday, November 06, 2008 12:17 AM | I found the fix.
Run the disk cleanup on the C: drive.
(If you don't know how, choose my computer, right click on C: dirve, choose properities, choose disk cleanup from there.)
check all boxes but the one for the compress old files.
After that the file would redownload.
(I also think the choce for the Advanced Service setup is the one corrupt, I tried it 2 more times, it downloaded, but each time corrupt (had to redo disk cleanup)... Then I ran the default choice. This worked fine. | | moosetracker Friday, November 07, 2008 10:52 PM | I am experiencing a similar problem. Cancelling the install and trying again does not fix it.

Software to help you build a better store | | Andy Miller Wednesday, January 21, 2009 11:57 PM | Still the same problem when trying to download SQL Express with advanced features, the install claims the download is corrupt (and the cleanup disk doesn't fix this). I'm using XP SP3. Problem seems to have being around for 6 months now.
