cannot find sql managmen program or visual studio after installed visual studio express 2008

i have win7 enterprise trial version.
i went to download some visual studio 2008 express programs
i started with visual web developer which installed (as it said) sql server 2008
second, i installed visual C#, which also installed some files with it
when i tried to download the SQL server express i was directed to "Microsoft Web Platform Installer" to download
however, when it opened i saw that it says that sql server express 2008 with sp1 is installed.

when i went to START->ALL PROGRAMS->MICROSOFT SQL 2008 SERVER folder, all i've found is 'import and export data (32bit)' and 'configuration tools' folder, which included: 'SQL Server Configuration Manager', 'SQL Server Error and Usage Reporting and SQL Server Error' and 'Usage Reporting'
when i went to START->ALL PROGRAMS->Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 folder, all i've foud is 'Microsoft Visual Studio 2008' folder and in it 'Microsoft Visual Studio 2008'

my questions are:
1. where is the visual studio managment program
2. where is the sql server managment program (or what i need to use to start and run queries)

it seems like somthings are missing!!! i might add that i had no errors during download and install and that i didnt choose any custom setting. i just did the 'next->next...' and waited for it to finish.
this is the forth time ive tried to download and istall the sql express and i couldnt.
could anyone please offer some advice on how i can continue?

please i really need your help. im fairly new at this, so i'd appreciate some patience with me and explaining in simple terms what i need to do.

thanks in advance,

dalit

Hi Dalit,

Thank you for your post.

i have win7 enterprise trial version.

For Visual Studio Express Editions, SQL Server 2008 Express Edition is shipped with express products. Thus, during the installation, it will install SQL Server 2008 Express if we allow it to install as the following screenshot:

So, if SQL Server 2008 Express is installed during Visual Studio Express installation, you don't need to manually download and install it again. And that's why you received the message "SQL Server express 2008 is installed".

when i went to START->ALL PROGRAMS->MICROSOFT SQL 2008 SERVER folder, all i've found is 'import and export data (32bit)' and 'configuration tools' folder, which included: 'SQL Server Configuration Manager', 'SQL Server Error and Usage Reporting and SQL Server Error' and 'Usage Reporting'
when i went to START->ALL PROGRAMS->Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 folder, all i've foud is 'Microsoft Visual Studio 2008' folder and in it 'Microsoft Visual Studio 2008'

my questions are:
1. where is the visual studio managment program
2. where is the sql server managment program (or what i need to use to start and run queries)

Based on your description, Visual Studio Express and SQL Server Express seem to be well installed on your machine.
I have SQL Server 2008 Express and Visual Studio Express products on one PC. I have the same folder structure and tools as you mentioned.
For your concern, to apply SQL Server management tools like Management Studio or Visual Studio Tools, you should upgrade Express to Standard or above edition.

Hope this helps. If you have any concern, please feel free to let me know.
