Structureing table of content and plugin an other help file into a topic

Hi,

I´m not sure if my question is right here in the sandcastle form, but I have a problem to structure my help file table of content. I use serveral tools for generating the help 2.0 hxs, hxc, hxt files. For the class library documentation generated from a assembly andXML comment fileI used thenewest Sandcastle Help File builder (SHFB)and Sandcastle version. Within the SHFBI cancreate and organize the helpstructureof additional content but I can not plug in the namespace comments into the additional content table of content. I also haveinstalled thenewest Visual Studio 2005 SDK that comes along with Innvoasys Help Studio LIte. I have build my additional content with the Help Studio Lite andI get hxs, hxc, hxt files. I want now plug into my namespacehelp file collection into the additional content collection and generating a combined help file (.hxs) and include this help file into the Visual StudioHelp. I know it is possible to have a master collectionfile (.hxc)and plugin collection files (.hxc) butI don´tknowwahts the difference and how can I generate these files? Should I wirte the (.hxc, .hxt, ...) files by my one in XML? Another idea from me is it possible to register my namespace help file to a special topic (that can be the additional topic content f.g. General Reference that I registered in the VS Help before I do this)? In the Help Studio Lite program it is possible to import Help 2.0 Projects (.hxc) but it does not function with my gernerated Namespacehelpfile from SHFB.I´m really angry thatMicrosoft doesn´t provide a toolhow in theMicrosoft Visual Studio Help Integration Kit for VS 2003 for VS 2005 within you can create a Help Project in the Visual Studio and structure the table of content. I have also tried to combine the help files with the Help Integration Wizard in Visual Studio under File -> New Project -> Other Project Types -> Extensibility -> Help Integration Wizard but I can not plug into my Namespace help documentation into a subtopic of my additional content help file.

Iwant the following sturctur of my table of content:

My Project (Topic)

WelcomePage (welcome.htm)

Getting Started(Topic)

something.htm

General References

My Name Space comments (from .HxS or .HxC file generated by Sandcastle or SHFB)

I´m really thankful if you can help me.

With kind regards

Christian

Hi Christian,

Maybe I can be of help in getting your MSHelp2 Combined Collection produced.

I created instructions how to accomplish this in one of my Fast Track tutorials "MSHelp2 Integration with Helpware FAR HTML and Microsoft Visual Studio 2005" which is posted on my web page at http://frank.helpware.net. This will involve some work with the Help Integration Wizard, and the initial set up steps are important.

  1. In the home page, please click the "Go to Fast Track Tutorials" hyperlink.
  2. In the Contents section, click "MSHelp2 Conversion and Integration".
  3. At the topic, click the "View Tutorial" hyperlink, it will open in a separate window.
  4. In the tutorial, go to the "Topics" navigation list on the left side of the web page.
  5. Click the "Appendix A: Creating a MSHelp2 Combined Collection" topic.

Please read the short introduction, and then follow the Step by Step instructions.

Hopefully,this helps solve the problem.

Kind regards,

Frank

Hi Frank,

thank you for your detailed response. Yesterday I have founded your internet site and I have partially solved my problem. One question is still open. Can I integrate a .HxS or .HxC file (Namespace help) into a child topic from an other .HxS .HxC (additional content) file that contains some help sites?

Topic structure from my Additional Content help file:

Welcome.htm

Getting Started (Topic)

Introduction.htm

General Reference

Someting.htm

An other thing.htm

Topic structure from Namespace help:

Company.Platform.Core Namespace

Company.Platform.Collections Namespace

.

.

.

What I have done with Help Integration Kit in VS 2005:

Inserted a new node (topic) Company Platform and under this I have added a child topic General Library Reference under this topic I have added my Namespace help (.HxS) file. Under the main topic Company Platform I have added my additional content (.HxS) help file.

But one question is can I add my Namespace help under a Topic from the Additional Content help file e.g. under the General Reference topic?

Kind Regards,

Christian
